Members of the Kenya Institute of Planners (KPI) have given their support to Konza Technopolis progress to date, noting that the Smart City is ready for business. The physical planning experts, while visiting Konza expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in transforming the Silicon Savannah into a reality.
“As planners we are very happy to see the progress made, the actualization of the physical planning dream into reality,” Mildred Ambani, Secretary KIP, said when he led a delegation of the planners for a familiarization tour.
Kenya Institute of Planners (KIP) is a professional body of planners incorporated in 1999. The goal of the Institute remains to make the Kenya nation a planning society where planning makes concrete contributions to among others Economic development; sustainable society; promotion of Kenyan cultures; responsible use of physical and ecological resources; and designing of areas that provide secure work places, living and recreation for our people. In this regard, the overall objective of the institute also remains enhancing the art and science of planning for sustainable local communities, urban and regional development, and to advance the growth of theory and practice of planning in Kenya and at the world stage. To achieve the goal and realize this overall objective the welfare of the Kenyan society is the centre piece of the institute’s involvement in Kenya’s quest to realize effective planning as a foundation for social and economic development.
“We are delighted to host you as a professional institute where we expect to tap into your vast knowledge to make our Silicon Savannah master plan to be a reality,” Arch Annah Musyimi, Chief Manager Planning, Design and Environment Konza Technopolis said.
“We are happy to note that we are on the tail end of phase 1 which entailed the laying of horizontal infrastructure and we expect our investors will be engaging you to provide them with technical support in the execution of their projects,” she added.
Konza Technopolis Phase 1 involved the setting up of the horizontal physical infrastructure which is at 97 percent completion level. It includes roads, walk ways, installation of street lights, construction of underground utility tunnels that carry all the electric power and fibre optic cables. In addition, Konza state of the art Data Centre is complete. It’s a Tier III Uptime certified data center that is already servicing a number of clients by offering cloud services, colocation, infrastructure and software services. Konza has onboarded more than 100 investors cutting across the various business sectors.
