The Nairobi County Environment Department partnered with Huduma Centre Kenya for a clean-up exercise in the Central Business District (CBD). The clean-up focused on Moi Avenue, Muindi Bingu Street, Muhkutar Street, and Jeevanjee Gardens.
Activities included street sweeping, litter picking, and waste collection, aimed at enhancing cleanliness in the CBD and raising awareness about the importance and impact of a healthy environment.
County Deputy Director for Environmental Monitoring, Compliance, and Enforcement, Mr. Kevin Oloitiptip, expressed the County’s honor in partnering with Huduma Kenya for the clean-up.
He emphasized the significance of such partnerships and their positive impacts on the community. Mr. Oloitiptip highlighted that waste management is a collective responsibility, a message the county aims to disseminate widely.
“This is just one of the many activities lined up as pre-activities for World Environment Day, which will be celebrated on 5th June,” stated Mr. Oloitiptip.
Huduma Kenya Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mugambi Njeru, indicated that the organization looks forward to collaborating with the County for monthly clean-ups extending to the ward level. He stressed the collective responsibility for maintaining a clean environment, urging people to take proactive steps rather than merely complaining.
The clean-up exercise saw the participation of key officials, including Assistant Environment Officer in charge of Starehe Subcounty, Mr. Duncan Miheso, Kamukunji Chief Environment Officer Mr. Noah Ng’eno, other Starehe Subcounty Environment Officers, and National Government officials.
